“Animal shows at the zoo have no educational value whatsoever. Instead, they are ironic as people are laughing at the animals suffering,” said Daniek Hendarto, from Centre for Orangutan Protection (COP).
At Taman Safari Zoo in Cisarua, Bogor, for instance, animals are presented as entertaining attractions when, in fact, as a conservation park, the zoo should be complying with Act No. 5/1990 on Animal Conservation. Fortunately, Gembiraloka Botanical Gardens and Zoo in Yogyakarta no longer has orangutan shows."
