Wayang Gets Modern Makeover | The Jakarta Globe

Wayang Gets Modern Makeover | The Jakarta Globe: "The art of wayang is struggling to survive today’s tech-savvy, modern society. It is old-fashioned, two-dimensional and tends to drag on for hours. However, an innovative new show, “Jabang Tetuko,” offers something different. Billed as a live multimedia show, it presents wayang via stage, orchestra and film. And it’s only 55 minutes long.

“What we are trying to do is to compress the long and complicated wayang story and convey it using a modern approach so that younger audiences can experience wayang and enjoy the show at the same time,” said Mirwan Suwarso, the show’s director."
