The Problem of Republican Idiots | The Nation

The Problem of Republican Idiots | The Nation: "One aspect of American politics that receives insufficient attention is that a significant percentage of self-identified Republicans—around half—are complete idiots. And the candidates who wish to be elected by them must pander to them, either by being idiots themselves—see “Bachmann, Michele”—or pretending to be. Nobody in the MSM is empowered to say this aloud. Indeed, the very act of pointing it out brands one a “liberal elitist” who is biased against proud, patriotic conservatives."

Florida couple forecloses on bank - NYPOST.com

Florida couple forecloses on bank - NYPOST.com: "This must have been very satisfying.

A Florida couple turned the tables on a major bank that tried to falsely foreclose on their home -- and instead wound up foreclosing on the bank.

Warren and Maureen Nyerges' strange twist of fate occurred after Bank of America accused them of defaulting on a mortgage for their single-story, 2,700-square-foot home.

It turned out the Collier County couple had paid cash for the house and didn't have a mortgage.

After dismissing the bank's claim, a judge ordered bank to cough up $2,500 to cover the couple's attorney fees, but the check never came.

So the Nyerges followed the bank's example and went into a local branch Friday with sheriff's deputies, a moving company and an OK from the court to seize the bank's assets.

'I'm either leaving the building with a whole bunch of furniture, or a check or cash or something,' insisted the Nyerges' attorney, Todd Allen.

The branch manager eventually cut them a $5,772.88 check to cover the couple's costs."

'Below U.S.' explores Speedy Gonzalez and his identity crisis | Crosscut.com: "Try to put yourself in Speedy Gonzalez’s sombrero (he doesn’t wear shoes). Every day he must cross a fence that separates the “haves” and the “have-nots.” And in that crossing, he has developed multiple identities.

On one side of the fence, he is a hero — a tiny Robin Hood of the Rio Grande. He helps compatriots to their safety, brings music to their fiestas, and steals enough cheese for everybody. On the other side, Speedy is considered a lawless bandit looking to get something for nothing.

This is just the beginning of Below U.S., a new play created by Tikka Sears and Manuel Castro of Memory War Theater."
